German translation of iCoachKids MOOC number one is underway!
Project iCoachKids is delighted to announce that the first Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) will be translated into German, and ready to go by the end of the summer of 2019.
The main partners who have made this important work happen are the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), German Sports Youth (DSJ), Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT), Trainerakademie Köln and several sports associations, including the German Basketball Federation.
iCoachKids' centre-piece is the development of a series of three Massive Open Online Courses or MOOCs to support and guarantee access to high quality coach education to all coaches around the EU and beyond. Translation of this work into other languages is an exciting development which will extend the reach of this important work.
The German Sports Youth would like to promote the educational quality of trainers in sport, to give children fun in the movement, to promote a variety of skills and to enable them to participate in sports. The focus is on the protection and well-being of children. With iCoachKids, trainers have the opportunity to reflect on their training and how to coach children through a free learning platform and to gain new perspectives. The DOSB supports the project and thus comes a step closer to its Vision Trainer/ Trainer 2026, and the improvement of the basic conditions of trainers .
The IAT supports athletes on their way to the top of the world. Dr Antje Hoffmann Head of Department Junior Elite Sports at IAT says:
Fundamentals for elite sports as well as for lifetime activity are laid down in childhood. With the emphasis on fun, by sparking the passion for lifelong sports and exercise in as many kids as possible. iCoachKids provides us with perfect offers to support children's trainers in their work. I can hardly wait for the German version to go online!
Project Director Dr Sergio Lara-Bercial says:
We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. Partnering with DOSB and the other youth sport organisations and federations to make sure coaches across Germany and beyond can access and benefit from the iCoachKids MOOCs is a dream come true. To be able to support and learn from a country with such an amazing sporting culture is a real honour for iCoachKids.
iCoachKids is co-funded by an Erasmus+ grant and led by Leeds Beckett University (LBU) and the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE).
