British Cycling team up with iCoachKids to develop coaches working with children
British Cycling is proud to announce an agreement with global coach developers iCoachKids to collaborate on projects that support the development of coaches working with children.
The arrangement will see the sharing of research and knowledge as well as collaborating on projects and new education products to meet the needs of cycling coaches and others working with children.
British Cycling’s Head of Education, Simon Hibbert, said:
“We have big ambitions for children and cycling at British Cycling including supporting 75% of children to ride regularly by 2030. Though we have a some brilliant offers for children including Ready Set Ride, a thriving club network, Go-Ride Racing and a great talent pathway, we are constantly looking to evolve our offer to keep engaging children from all walks of life.
Working with iCoachKids presents an opportunity for us to start developing more children-specialists who can offer that fun, engaging and supportive cycling activity that promotes lifelong engagement with the sport. ICoachKids as well as Leeds Beckett University are the experts in the field and we are keen to learn from them to shape our offer for children and coaches alike.”
iCoachKids and British Cycling have very close related objectives to improve the health, wellbeing and participation of children and young people in sport and physical activity. Coaches can already access a wealth of free elearning courses and open source resources from iCoachKids, including a huge literature review on a specialist children’s coaching workforce.
iCoachKids Project Director, Sergio Lara-Bercial said:
“We are thrilled to partner with British Cycling to support the children and youth coaching workforce. iCoachKids is a global not-for-profit movement co-led by Leeds Beckett University and the International Council for Coaching Excellence with the aim of providing FREE online, high-quality learning experience for coaches across the globe. We are confident our resources will support the thousands of cycling coaches to create even better sport opportunities and experiences for lots of children in the UK.”
