iCoachKids Project Leader, Sergio Lara-Bercial, arrived at the recently crowned World Champions ground for the eagerly anticipated meeting with Director of Education for the Real Madrid Foundation Gema Ortega and Technical Lead for Basketball Jorge Franco.
The Foundation is the vehicle through which the Spanish world football powerhouse realises its total compromise to solidarity with those in need and to the educational and positive values of sport. The fundamental purpose of the Foundation is to promote sports and their values amongst children and youth in the understanding that taking part contributes to the comprehensive development of the young person.
The main objective of the meeting was to explore the potential contribution of the Foundation to the developing iCoachKids FREE Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for Children’s Coaches. Sergio Lara-Bercial stressed the importance of having the Real Madrid Foundation on board:
“The Foundation already has a fantastic suite of coach education resources and at iCoachKids, we don’t want to re-invent the wheel when someone has tried and tested materials that we know are top quality”.
The first e-learning course will be launched in the summer of 2018, with an additional two released in 2019. They are aimed at coaches working with children and young people all over the European Union and beyond. Gema Ortega, Director of Education for the Foundation believes they have a lot to offer to the iCoachKids vision:
“Being an iCoachKids supporter is a great opportunity for the Real Madrid Foundation to share in the philosophy and educational value of sport as tool to improve everyone’s quality of life”
